Thursday, Aug 22, 2013

Oistins Fish Fry, Christ Church, Barbados

The tranquil town of Oistins, located on the south coast of Barbados, is a sleepy little fishing town that transforms to a party hub every Friday night for the Oistins Fish Fry.

1. EASE UP ON YOUR FRIDAY BREAKFAST AND LUNCH

You’re going to want to save up a lot of space in your stomach to make room for the plenty of beautiful fish dishes during the night.

2. DRESS CODE: LAIDBACK

There’s really no point in dressing up to the nines for this Friday night event. This is a very casual event where the most important things are to have fun, eat well and feel comfortable.

4. CASH NOT CARD

Make sure you’ve got enough BBD (Barbados Dollars) with you. Some vendors may not take card payments and it’s quicker to pay by cash.

5. JOIN A TABLE AND MINGLE

One of the special things about Oistins Fish Fry night is that it attracts both the Barbadian locals and tourists who are drawn together for their love of food, fun and friendship. Perch on a picnic table in one of the seating areas and get chatting to the people you’re sitting with.

Once you’ve had your fill of fish, explore the area. As well as dining on delicious fish dishes there’s also plenty of music, dancing in the street and a few games such as dominoes to enjoy. The revelling atmosphere makes for a brilliant Bajan night out.
